In 2018, the five non-mining energy products that stood out the most due to the increase in their external sales throughout the year were palm oil, polypropylene, automobiles, avocado and cape gooseberry.
According to an analysis of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, palm oil registered in the first 10 months of 2018, exports of US $ 407 million, which represented an increase of 24.8% compared to the same period of 2017, when US $ 326 million were shipped. The main destinations for this product were the Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Mexico and Germany, among others.
Another good that stood out was the polypropylene, which reached exports for US $ 376 million in the period of analysis, for a growth of 23.3% compared to the first 10 months of 2017, when exports reached US $ 305 million.
On the other hand, exports of automobiles for the transport of persons registered a variation of 22.5%. Sales totaled US $ 357 million between January and October 2018, while in the same period of 2017 they reached US $ 292 million. The main destinations of this class of exports were the Andean Community and Mexico.
Avocado was another of the star products last year. This is a product that debuted in recent years in international markets and has shown a favorable behavior in its billing to some destinations in particular.
The exports that were made of this product between January and October 2018, exceeded those made throughout 2017. While in 2017 the country sold to the world US $ 52.9 million, in the first 10 months of 2018 sales exceeded US $ 53.6 million. When comparing this amount with January-October 2017, the positive variation was 32.6%. According to Mincit, the behavior in the US market stands out, where the product achieved sanitary eligibility in the second half of 2017.
The main destination of this good is that of the Netherlands, where almost half of the external sales of this product are shipped. Followed by the United Kingdom, Spain and Belgium.
On the other hand, cape gooseberry also surpassed the sales it made in 2017, when it exported US $ 27.8 million. Between January and October of last year, exports of this product reached US $ 28.1 million, representing a growth of 21% compared to the same period of 2017.
The main destinations are the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. In the United States, where it achieved eligibility in 2015, sales registered a 127.7% growth, compared to the first 10 months of 2017. They increased from US $ 1.35 million to US $ 3.1 million.
This indicates that the Colombian fruits have more and more orders abroad. For example, the sales of these to the world reach the figure of US $ 1,036 million and the European market had a participation of 77.2% with a value of US $ 800 million, with banana, avocado, pineapple, mango, lemon and passionflower as protagonists. The countries that most demand Colombian agricultural products are: Belgium, United Kingdom, Italy and the Netherlands.
